For instance, IPL was designed to treat cosmetic issues such as acne, reddened skin, pigmentation, aging and sun damaged skin. Although not designed specifically for hair removal, it was found that the IPL energy could assist in hair reduction.

IPL's emit an unfocused or scattered light and are not pin-point accurate. Meanwhile, medical lasers emit a coherent or very focused laser beam.
