It’s Time for Some You Time: The Best Spas Retreats in Australia

Spas have become a popular way for people to treat themselves to some relaxation and rejuvenation. There is no shortage of spas in Australia, with boutiques, retreats and hotels ensuring that a luxury pampering is just a booking away.

We’ve compiled a list of some of the best spas in Australia so get ready to check them all out, one by one... all in the name of research of course!

Chateau Elan at the Vintage, Hunter Valley, NSW

Chateau Elan is a luxury hotel property located in the Hunter Valley region, just two hours north of Sydney. This is a great option for Sydney siders as it’s far enough to feel away from home but not so far that you can’t go for a day or two.

The spa at Chateau Elan has 17 individual treatment rooms as well as a hydro lounge and swimming pool. The hydro lounge consists of an outdoor hot spa bath, an infrared detox box, and two outdoor salt water hot tubs. There is a deck overlooking the vineyards and forest - a beautiful place to spend a day unwinding.

The 25 metre swimming pool is part of the hotel but is also available to spa patrons. Unwinding by the pool is a great way to drag out your relaxation experience a little longer.

The Byron at Byron, Byron Bay, NSW

The Byron at Byron is a luxury resort and spa located in the Byron Bay hinterland. It is set within a subtropical rainforest yet close to Tallows Beach - the perfect place for a getaway from city life.

The day spa has six treatment rooms, a spa, steam room and a relaxation area. They offer a variety of treatments and can customise an experience depending on what you’d like to achieve (relaxation, rejuvenation or more focused treatments).

Waldheim Alpine Spa, Cradle Mountain, TAS

The Waldheim Alpine Spa is part of the Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge property. This is nature at its best - one of the benefits of going to Tasmania.

As well as the treatment rooms, the day spa has a steam room, sauna, hot tub and cool plunge pool so that you can experience the benefits of hot and cold water therapy. They offer the standard face and body treatments as well as some customised healing rituals.

The Lake House, Daylesford, VIC

The Lake House is a retreat set on six acres, extending down to Lake Daylesford. The spa is housed within the grounds of the Lake House and nine treatment rooms, surrounded by natural streams.

If you’re after a tranquil environment, this should definitely be on your list.

Authenticity Spa Resort, Port Elliot, SA

The Authenticity Spa Resort is a Mediterranean inspired property in Port Elliot, just an hour’s drive from Adelaide. This is more of a retreat and their goal is to have you leave with the ability to achieve a better quality of life.

They have a comprehensive spa menu and even incorporate yoga and naturopathy into their programs.

Qualia, Hamilton Island, QLD

As Australia’s foremost luxury resort, Qualia is no secret but it’s setting above the Whitsundays, coupled with its unique treatments make it one for the bucket list.

The spa has six treatment rooms, a sunken Roman bath and an outdoor shower but it’s famous for its hot stone massage that uses 300 million year old stones!

The Darling, Sydney, NSW

There is no shortage of city hotel spas, but the Darling is Sydney’s newest luxury hotel and its spa is famous for its exclusivity and five star treatments.

If you want to splash out, the spa has 16 private treatment rooms and they even have an intimate couples suite if you want to take your other half.

Hepburn Bathhouse and Spa, Hepburn Springs, VIC

The Hepburn Bathhouse has been around since 1895, allowing visitors to experience the area’s natural mineral rich waters (which it draws directly from the source).

You can use the communal mineral baths, salt therapy pool, steam room and spa but they also offer a dedicated day spa for more luxurious and comprehensive treatments such as private mineral baths, water therapies and the usual face and body treatments.

We are certainly spoilt for choice in Australia but if you’re in the market for some pampering, one of these unique day spas from around the country will give you what you’re looking for.
